Speaking of YOSHIKI, he’s world widely known as member of the band X JAPAN, who have achieved showcases at world’s top 3 holy venues – Madison Square Garden, Carnegie Hall, and Wembley Arena. Lately, he was much-talked-about as the first Japanese man to be featured on the cover of VOGUE magazine. PIKOTARO was requested by this international star to collaborate “PPAP” and X JAPAN’s “Forever Love” as an ad-lib during the show. Amazingly, it turned out to be one of the most beautiful PPAP ever presented.

PPAP x Forever Love Collaboration:

During the second half of the show, PIKOTARO presented his latest anime, “PIKOTARO’s LULLABY LALA BY” and Japanese festival & dance music fusion track, “Love & Peace ONDO.” Various positive reactions of the anime arouse from the fans, and YOSHIKI also praised PIKOTARO’s talent commenting, “Your idea about the music and anime are both simply amazing!!”

"Love & Peace ONDO"

* ONDO = dance song

This is PIKOTARO's new idea of "Uhhh-ing" Japanese traditional dance, Bon Dance, and dance music... "Bon-Dance Music.” PIKOTARO also fused Robot Dance, choreographed by worldwide famous animation dancer, Koutei Sennin. His dance team, Time Machine, is known for catching the world’s attention when they won the first Golden Buzzer in the history of Asia’s Got Talent in 2015.

PIKOTARO would like to spread the Japanese traditional culture worldwide through this new fusion of Robot Dance + Obon Dance = "Robon-Dance"

* As you may have noticed, the ‘cat’ headphones PIKOTARO is wearing is Ariana Grande’s model! He admires Ariana so much that he personally purchased during his US visit

On October 9, 2017, YOSHIKI donated $100,000.00 to help get immediate aid to hurricane victims in the United States and its territories. YOSHIKI delivered the check in New York to MusiCares®, a charity of the Recording Academy™ via Jennifer Leff, LCSW Senior Director, Health & Human Services. The donation will be funded immediately to MusiCares’s current hurricane relief efforts through Yoshiki Foundation America 501(c)(3). 100% of all donations to Musicares go directly to people in need.

“I’m from Japan but I live in America,” YOSHIKI said. “When Japan got hit by the Tsunami Earthquake in 2011, the people of America supported Japan. I was really moved by that, so I’d like to keep supporting America as much as I can. My heart goes out to all those who are affected.”

The donation ceremony followed a Q&A with YOSHIKI and a special screening of WE ARE X, the award-winning documentary about X JAPAN — one of the most successful rock bands in Japanese history — at the Bryant Park Hotel in New York City.

WE ARE X has been released in a limited edition DVD and Vinyl soundtrack bundle now available worldwide through PledgeMusic:

Yoshiki reveals details of the upcoming tour and discusses his state of mind following his operation.

“This was Hide and Taiji’s dream… a comeback was the only choice.”

Yoshiki made a sudden return to Japan on June 20th (Tuesday), and held a press conference in Tokyo. During the press conference, Yoshiki personally revealed details of his upcoming tour.
Despite the last-minute notice, hundreds of fans selected from the fan club attended the press conference. When Yoshiki, who had landed in Japan that morning, appeared wearing a protective neck brace, the fans cheered and screamed and some had tears in their eyes.

Yoshiki announced that the upcoming X Japan tour would feature a screening of the special, 60-minute edition of the film We Are X which debuted at the Wembley Arena show in March earlier this year. Screenings will begin one hour before the concert, and the concert itself is scheduled to last over two hours. Yoshiki personally disclosed ongoing discussions about whether to include old songs such as “Rose of Pain” and “Unfinished” in the set list as well as the fact that a string section will accompany him on stage.

Physiotherapist Carl Dunstan also arrived in Japan from the UK and will be accompanying the band throughout the tour to ensure that Yoshiki, who is only a few weeks post-surgery, will be able to complete the performances.

Mr. Dunstan belongs to the physiotherapist organization Atherapy, which counts numerous renowned artists and actors such as U2 and the Red Hot Chili Peppers among its clients, and is himself an accomplished professional who was Daniel Craig’s exclusive physiotherapist during production of the 007 film Spectre and has treated many other famous actors and musicians. He was able to accompany the tour thanks to an introduction from Larry Mullen, Jr., the drummer for U2, with whom Yoshiki is acquainted.

Furthermore, it was revealed that the plans for the Yoshiki Premium Dinner Show 2017, which begins August 26th, had designated from its inception that 150,000 dollars (approximately 18 million yen) of the sales would be donated to charity, and that the staging of the show itself was decided upon with these plans in mind. The donations will go to the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music, which is one of the top two music schools in the U.S. Shelly Berg, the school’s dean, is also responsible for the string arrangement for the X Japan tour and the quartet arrangement for the Dinner Show. The donation will be used to help musicians of the future create the next era of music.

There were also moments in the press conference where Yoshiki described his experience of going through rehabilitation. “I don’t know if I will be able to play the drums again. Even if I am able to do so, it may be impossible to perform with the same intensity as before. I can’t even say for sure, at this point, whether I would do so if I could.” These words clearly express his turbulent emotions following a major surgery.

“If there were no X Japan reunion, I would not have had surgery twice. But the time put into the reunion and the challenge of taking on the world are worthwhile. I do not regret it. And I will not stop until I break down the wall.” As a result of the dangerous surgery, Yoshiki said he often thought about the direction of his life.

Yet, having overcome that surgery with the support of myriad members and fans, and with the goal of completing the Japan tour serving as a kind of fuel, he has decided to “show the best of myself on stage.” No doubt Yoshiki’s resolve will be engraved into history by six miraculous nights.

Due to changes in the style of the X Japan tour performances, those who wish to do so can apply for a refund of their ticket purchase at the Udo Music Office website:

"I Can Only Live by Moving Forward. I Want a Goal to Live"

During a press conference held in Tokyo on June 9th, X Japan members Toshl, Pata, and Heath, along with host Udo Artists, Inc., announced that the "X JAPAN WORLD TOUR 2017 WE ARE X" concerts in Japan at Osaka-jo Hall (July 11 and 12) and Yokohama Arena (July 14, 15, 16, and 17) will be performed as acoustic concerts. The title of the tour will be changed to "X JAPAN WORLD TOUR 2017 WE ARE X Acoustic Special Miracle 6 DAYS".

Although Yoshiki successfully underwent cervical artificial disk replacement surgery and has already started the rehabilitation process, doctors cannot say with certainty that he will be able to drum like he used to. Since doctors have instructed him to stay away from vigorous exercise for at least 6 months, he cannot play the drums for the time being. However, since Yoshiki himself does not want these scheduled concerts to be canceled due to his surgery, he asked whether there would be any way to make the concerts happen, and the band members sided with him when he reached out.

X Japan members explained during today's press conference that these performances will happen as "acoustic" concerts with Yoshiki only playing the piano, a decision based on Yoshiki's rehabilitation schedule, projected recovery timeframe, advice from doctors, and his current state, after multiple discussions with promoters and WME, Yoshiki’s U.S. agency.

During the conference, there was also a phone call from Yoshiki, who is currently going through recovery in Los Angeles. After conveying his message, saying “I want to move forward. I’d love to be given a chance to do the shows”, Yoshiki also revealed, in response to the emcee’s question, that the “EVENING WITH YOSHIKI 2017 IN NAGOYA & OSAKA & TOKYO JAPAN” premium dinner shows scheduled for this summer will also happen.

Regarding his decision to go on with these performances in Japan, Yoshiki had already made up his mind prior to the procedure that he will make the tour his goal to overcome the surgery. The fact that fans from around the world were so concerned for Yoshiki was such a blessing, however, he stated "I want to accomplish this goal I promised to myself by any means." In other words, the goal of doing this tour helped him overcome his surgery. His message implied that, even though there are concerns for his physical ability, he is ready to address the challenge to make the July shows a success.

Based on what we know about Yoshiki's current state after surgery, we cannot say that his rehabilitation, which is very painful, is going smoothly. Shortly after surgery, he was not able to walk on his own, and even breathing normally was difficult. This is why he became worried if his fingers would move normally and headed to his recording studio after getting out of the hospital. Currently, he is feeling numb from his mouth to neck, and a pain that feels like electricity is running through his left arm. Under doctor's supervision, Yoshiki has been advised to "move around as much as possible" and he is following his doctor's instructions in order to get himself ready for the upcoming shows.

26 years ago, X Japan performed a single acoustic show in 1991, when the band was called “X”. During the show titled "Silent X", Yoshiki did not drum and the band members came on stage with their acoustic guitars. Their long-time fans called it the "X never to be seen again".

Yoshiki’s surgery struck people as a shocking news, but because it has transpired, a legendary concert will come to life which people thought would never happen again. The July concerts may very well be called "Elegant X Japan", which has evolved from "Silent X", something beyond the realm of acoustic, with beautiful strings, that people can indeed call a “Miracle Night” as the title reads.

Yoshiki said before the closing of the press conference, "I am very sorry to the fans who have worried for me. As long as I stand on stage, I want to inspire people."

Statement from Udo Artists, Inc.

As this X Japan tour of Japan was flooded with demand, all performances were sold out immediately. We unfortunately caused concern for many fans and related companies due to the emergency surgery on Yoshiki, the leader, drummer, and pianist, but we sincerely appreciate the countless words of encouragement and support from inside and outside Japan. Since the content of the performances will be changed from the original plans to an acoustic format, with the addition of strings and other aspects as announced today, we will be providing refunds to those who desire one. Refunds will be processed through the ticketing agency you used. Please visit the Udo Artists, Inc. homepage for details.

Toshl Statement:

We will support Yoshiki with everything we have, and we will fight with him. For the upcoming shows, I want to share the X Japan that an audience can only see in a moment like this and be inspired together.

PATA Statement:
I'm sure I'll see you soon, Yoshiki, but good luck! I'm looking forward to the July shows.

HEATH Statement:

The July shows will be our first acoustic concerts. We will do out best to make it an inspiring evening. We appreciate your support.

SUGIZO Statement:

Under the circumstances, I will do my best. I will give my heart and soul under any situation. That is my responsibility.

Yoshiki of X Japan underwent surgery for cervical artificial disc replacement on Tuesday (USA time), May 16th, 2017, at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles. The operation was concluded successfully.

Diagnosed as having “cervical foraminal stenosis” (radiculopathy of the left arm and herniated discs at the C5-C6 levels) due to his intense drumming style, his artificial disc replacement surgery required several hours of highly intricate skills by Dr. Neel Anand. Yoshiki is currently in stable condition. According to the doctor, he will have difficulty using his voice for a while after the surgery. He should regain his regular voice within the coming months as recovery progresses.

The incision is expected to heal partially over the next 6 weeks, and 90% recovery is expected over the next 6 months. However, the length of time it will take for Yoshiki to see improvement on the nerve pain that runs down his left arm is still unknown.

Ordinarily Yoshiki should remain in the hospital for at least a few days after the surgery. After waking up from general anesthesia and under heavy analgesics, he expressed that he wants to record a song he was writing from last night till right before surgery. Persuading his doctor into releasing him from the hospital a few hours after surgery, he headed for the studio and stayed there for half an hour. However, since his condition after surgery was too extreme, his staff and the accompanying nurse managed to get him back home to rest under his physician’s care.

In regards to the “X Japan World Tour 2017 We are X” scheduled in July, the Yoshiki Premium Dinner Show dates in August and September, and other X JAPAN world tour dates, decisions will be made based on his recovery. We hope to make announcements as soon as possible.

We thank everyone for the well wishes from all over the world. At the same time, Yoshiki deeply apologizes for any inconvenience caused by his health.

Emergency surgery for Yoshiki of X Japan scheduled to take place in Los Angeles on May 16, 2017.

It has been determined by multiple doctors that Yoshiki of X JAPAN will undergo an emergency cervical artificial disc replacement surgery on Tuesday, May 16th in Los Angeles.

Full statement has been released by Yoshiki's management Team:

As a result of YOSHIKI's intense drumming style and its impact on his physical health, he was diagnosed with cervical foraminal stenosis in July 2009, and then underwent a cervical laminectomy and a cervical foraminotomy.

After suffering from a herniated disc that has worsened over the past six months, YOSHIKI has experienced symptoms including numbness and severe paralysis of the left hand and arm, which have since affected his musical performances. Upon receiving a complete examination by his doctors in both Japan and the U.S., YOSHIKI was diagnosed with cervical foraminal stenosis (radiculopathy of the left arm and herniation of intervertebral disc C5-C6). After thorough consultation, YOSHIKI has no choice but to undergo surgery at this time.

YOSHIKI has been informed by a neurosurgeon in Japan that his neck has experienced severe damage that would force a professional rugby player to retire. It has been medically determined that he is approaching his limit, both physically and mentally. The intense schedule has taken its toll on his already damaged nervous system. With performances at Visual Japan Summit Festival, Yoshiki Classical Special in Japan, Hong Kong, Carnegie Hall in New York and Wembley Arena in London, he has continued to play around the world with X JAPAN and solo. In addition to adopting an intensive travel schedule to over 20 film festivals globally to promote the documentary WE ARE X, contributed to his health condition.

"I had the pleasure of seeing Yoshiki, who has a C5-6 disc herniation with left arm radiculopathy. He has been recommended to have a cervical artificial disc replacement," explains Neel Anand, M.D., YOSHIKI's Orthopedic Spine surgeon in the U.S.

Dr. Tommy Tomizawa, M.D., adds "It was decided upon consultation that he will undergo emergency surgery as the condition of his neck at present will interfere not only with his career as an artist, but also with everyday life. From viewing the results of the MRI and CT scans, the damage is so severe that it is apparent that he has experienced considerable pain while performing. As this would be his second such procedure, we eliminated the option of a cervical foraminotomy, an operation in which a portion of bone is removed. Yoshiki's symptoms reappeared at the Visual Japan Summit festival, which was held last October in Japan. By the time he performed in January of this year at New York's Carnegie Hall, he had already lost the sensation in his left hand. The symptoms worsened this March following the U.K. Wembley performance, but he continued recording. Even in his condition at that state, Yoshiki stated that he wanted to see things through to the end. However, due to the worsening of his symptoms, doctors, determined that if the situation continued he would have gone beyond the point of surgery and recovery."

The operation is to be performed on May 16th at a Los Angeles hospital. Unfortunately, the cancellation of all scheduled activity in May could not be avoided. In addition, July's X Japan World Tour 2017, 'We Are X' concert dates in Japan, 'the Yoshiki Premium Dinner Show' dates in August and September, as well as yet-to-be-announced dates for the summer world tour that was to start in Los Angeles, are now undergoing rescheduling with his U.S. agency William Morris Endeavor.

Following YOSHIKI's operation, a discussion whether to cancel, postpone or move forward as scheduled will be held amongst the agent, promoter and management.

We deeply apologize for the inconvenience this will cause to fans and everyone involved.

Let's every keep our thoughts with YOSHIKI and his family as we await news of a safe recovery

X Japan leader Yoshiki performed at the Classic Rock Awards held at Ryogoku Kokugikan this past Friday, November 11.
Yoshiki made history by becoming the first-ever artist to be honored with the “Asian Icon Award.” Based at the venerable Roundhouse venue in London, the Classic Rock Awards are widely recognized by the world’s rock stars as the “annual must-attend event,” bringing together artists from rock’s global Hall of Fame.

The show was held in Japan this year for the first time ever, and with this memorable timing Yoshiki became the first Asian artist to accomplish this great achievement. Rock royalty including Jeff Beck, ELO, Jimmy Page, Joe Perry, Def Leppard, Richie Sambora, Cheap Trick attended the event and gave Yoshiki rave reviews for his performance featuring classical renditions of David Bowie’s “Space Oddity” and X Japan’s masterpiece “Art Of Life.”

"So many artists in Asia are going overseas and Asian rock is growing worldwide,” Yoshiki said as he accepted the award. “X Japan is proud to be one of them and if there’s a wall between east and west, the wall is getting lower and thinner. I’m going to break this wall. It’s an honor to receive this award. I would like to dedicate this award to the X Japan members especially Hide and Taiji. Thank you very much.”

On January 12 and 13, 2017, Yoshiki will make his Carnegie Hall debut with “Yoshiki Classical featuring Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra.” Although known as the founder, songwriter and drummer of X Japan, Yoshiki is a classically trained multi-instrumentalist, composer, and musician. Having composed the 2012 Golden Globe Awards theme song, he also composed and performed an orchestral piece and piano concerto to commemorate the Japanese Emperor’s 10th anniversary of his reign. His recent album Yoshiki Classical features collaborations between Yoshiki and legendary Beatles producer Sir George Martin, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Tokyo City Philharmonic Orchestra, and Quartet San Francisco. At the Carnegie shows, Yoshiki will perform his original compositions alongside the world-renowned Tokyo Philharmonic; he will also play several traditional Classical pieces. Yoshiki has tapped Yuga Cohler (co-creator of the Kanye West/Beethoven crossover project “Yeethoven”) to conduct the concerts.

Sad news for X Japan fans.

Due to guitarist PATA's illness, the band is forced to postpone the March 12, 2016 SSE Arena Wembley show to March 4, 2017. All tickets sold will still be valid for the new date.

PATA was admitted to the ICU at a hospital in Tokyo on January 15, 2016. He was diagnosed with a life-threatening condition, including a severe blood clot. He recently came out of the ICU and his condition has thankfully stabilized, however his doctors do not consider him fit to fly until he has made a full recovery.

After much discussion, X JAPAN has announced a suspension of their current performance commitments, including the Wembley show. This also includes the release of X JAPAN’s new album, scheduled for a March 11, 2016. A new worldwide release date will be announced soon.

X JAPAN members have released the following statements:

“My heart is filled with sadness. No words can describe how sorry I am to disappoint our fans. I know the show must go on, but at this this time I can only pray for PATA’s recovery. I cannot tolerate more tragedy than what we’ve been through. I promise X JAPAN will come back strong, as we’ve done before, together with our fans.”

“We are truly sorry from the bottom of our hearts, for all the worries and concerns we’ve caused to our fans. X JAPAN is looking forward to playing with PATA again, and continuing our music journey together.”

“We truly apologize for the postponement of our Wembley show and new album. In order to present ourselves in the best condition for all our beloved fans, we’ve made a very difficult decision to wait for PATA’s full recovery. Upon his return, we promise to do our best to play even better and show you the best version of ourselves on stage. Please stay tuned.”

“There is no X JAPAN without PATA. I will wait for him, for as long as it will take.”

Artist:   X Japan

As a kick off for their world tour, X Japan will hold a charity concert for the Great East Japan Earthquake at the Ishinomaki Blue Resistance live music club, November 28th.

This will be the groups first live house performance since their All Night Metal Party concert at the Meguro Rock-May-Kan back in December of 1991.

Half (75) of the planned tickets for this concert were auctioned off on Yahoo for a sum of 120 million yen (12 thousand USD). These proceeds, at the fervent request of X Japan, will be donated to the Central Community Chest of Japan where the money then will be distributed into Tohoku regions greatly affected by earthquake.

*The remaining 75 tickets will be given to local residents for free.
