Japanese superstar HOTEI returns to Europe in April 2017 with live dates scheduled in Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland and Belgium, playing in many cities for the very first time.

This is a message from the man himself:

"My career started from playing in small clubs in Japan, and we built it up to the level where I was able to play in front of stadiums full of screaming fans.

And now, I'm opening the door to the world, starting again from playing small clubs in new, unfamiliar places. Back to basics, never lose your ambition even in your success―that's my philosophy. One step at a time with your own steps, that's the only way to achieve your dreams.

I can guarantee you that you will be up on your feet dancing once you hear me play live with my amazing band, even if you are not familiar with me. Those who are bored with experiencing live performances with no soul will be surprised at how refreshing it is to see a real 'live' performance!

I am really looking forward to meeting as many people as possible on this Euro tour! If you can't connect with the soul of the audience in front of you, there's no chance to grab the hearts of thousands!"

Hotei celebrated his 35th anniversary in music in 2016 with a new "Best of" album release and an extensive touring schedule in Japan, with 57 dates across the country. The shows ranged from intimate club shows, to a free open-air concert in his hometown in front of 25,000 fans and finishing the year with his 40th performance at the Budokan in Tokyo on December 30th, where Hotei performed 35 songs to celebrate his 35 years in music.

Hotei also found time in 2016 to continue building his international profile, striking up a personal and professional relationship with Italian superstar Zucchero and performing on his latest, platinum selling, album "Black Cat". Hotei and Zuccchero performed live together several times in 2016, including Zucchero's first ever performance in Japan at a special event in Tokyo, and at headline shows at the Royal Albert Hall in London and Arena Di Verona in Italy.

That special relationship has continued into 2017 with Hotei joining Zucchero on stage at the prestigious San Remo Festival in Italy in February, a major TV performance viewed by millions.

Also in 2016, Hotei released singles with godfather of punk Iggy Pop and Richard Z. Kruspe (from Emigrate/Rammstein) from his critically acclaimed debut international album, "Strangers", and performed his first-ever LA show at the legendary Troubador, returned to the Highline Ballroom in New York, and performed headline dates in Amsterdam, Paris and Berlin.

Hotei released his debut international album, Strangers, in 2015 through Spinefarm Records, a subsidiary of Universal Music. The album features an array of guests including the godfather of punk Iggy Pop singing on two songs, Emigrate/Rammstein's Richard Z. Kruspe, Bullet For My Valentine's Matt Tuck, Noko from UK electronic band pioneers Apollo 440, and acclaimed Texan singer Shea Seger.

Heralded by Time Out as "iconic", and a genuine superstar in his native Japan where he has sold more than 40 million records, Hotei is best known internationally for his Kill Bill theme 'Battle Without Honor or Humanity' and is sought-after as a collaborator both in the studio and on stage.

I hope you are as excited for the tour as we are!

Here the MV, walking through the night:

Japanese superstar HOTEI has just released the video for his new single ‘Walking Through The Night’, which features the iconic Iggy Pop on vocals.

The video follows a man’s nocturnal journey through the seedy back streets of Tokyo, lured by the bright lights of temptation. Stunningly filmed and featuring shots of Iggy Pop and footage of Hotei, the video is a gloriously evocative taste of Hotei’s homeland that chimes with the snarling lyrics.

Iggy explains his inspiration for the track; “I tried to put myself on a late night brightly lit Shinjuku street, feeling alone, sexually vulnerable and a little bit angry… a little bit horny…” You can see Iggy discussing working with Hotei in an exclusive interview clip here.

The track is taken from the album Strangers, which was released last year through Spinefarm Records and is Hotei’s first international release. The album features an array of guests including Emigrate/Rammstein’s Richard Z. Kruspe, Bullet For My Valentine’s Matt Tuck, Noko from UK electronic band pioneers Apollo 440, and acclaimed Texan.

singer Shea Seger, alongside the godfather of punk, Iggy Pop.

‘Walking Through The Night’ also features long-time live fan favourite ‘Power’ as the B-Side to the release. Only recently recorded for the first time in the studio, ‘Power’ also comes with an accompanying video of him performing the song to a sold-out crowd of 10,000 people at the Yoyogi Gymnasium, Tokyo.

2016 also marks Hotei’s 35th anniversary in music and to celebrate this milestone, Hotei has been touring Japan extensively including over 50 live dates ranging from intimate club shows, to a free open-air concert in his hometown in front of 25,000 fans and will be ending the year with his 31st performance at the Budokan in Tokyo on December 30th, with a very special fan request show.

Not one to rest on his laurels, Hotei has been focusing on his international career and this year sold-out his first-ever LA show at the legendary Troubador, and the Highline Ballroom in New York. He also guested on Italian rock star Zucchero’s latest album and performed with him recently in Verona and at the Royal Albert Hall.

Heralded by Time Out as “iconic”, and a genuine superstar in his native Japan where he has sold more than 40 million records, Hotei is best known internationally for his Kill Bill theme ‘Battle Without Honor or Humanity’ and is sought-after as a collaborator both in the studio and on stage.

HOTEI has revealed the lyric video for his latest single ‘Texas Groove’ taken from the upcoming album Strangers, the first international release of his career on October 16th through Spinefarm Records.

‘Texas Groove’ is a pulsating electro-blues boogie featuring the southern soulstress Shea Seger and her smoky vocals. Having toured with John Mayer, David Gray and the band James, Seger’s enriching presence was the perfect choice to accompany Hotei’s vibrant guitar playing.

Born and raised in Texas herself, Shea Seger’s own solo career has seen her receive acclaim and support from fellow musicians such as Elton John, Pat Benatarand Pharrell Williams and share the stage with Emmylou Harris, Sheryl Crow, The Dixie Chicks,Ronnie Wood and Gang of Four amongst many others.

Now living in London, Seger also features on another track on Hotei’s Strangers, the glossy punchy rock anthem ‘Kill Or Kiss’,sitting proudly alongside a number of other impressive guests.

Asprevious single ‘How The Cookie Crumbles’ – one of two tracks featuring punk visionary Iggy Pop – illustrated, Hotei’s unique cultural perspective is one that transcends and eclipses the confines of genre. And that’s exactly what Strangers does.

From the heavy weight industrial synths of ‘Move It’ (co-starring Rammstein guitarist and Emigrate frontman Richard Z. Kruspe), through the dub-driven rhythms of quintessentially British trip-hop that propel‘Barrel Of My Own Gun’ courtesy of old friend and collaborator Noko of Apollo 440, to the brooding James Bond-style suspense of ‘Kill To Love You’ featuring the distinctive voice of Bullet For My Valentine frontman Matt Tuck, Strangers is an album of rich variety and unique sonic textures.
And those cinematic sensibilities are also to be found in Hotei’s most famous composition, ‘Battle Without Honor Or Humanity’ which was used to memorable effect by Tarantino in Kill Bill, and is included on the album.

While Strangers may be Hotei’s first official international release, it was always inevitable that Japan’s greatest guitar hero would break new ground, fuelled by his original inspirations.

Hotei comments, "When I was a teenager, I was going to the record shops to buy everything I could by The Beatles, The Stones, Led Zeppelin... I soon realised that almost all of it was British. With idols like David Bowie and T-Rex, I’ve always felt a strong connection to the UK, and now that I am living in London, ‘Strangers’ allows me to take a step out of this new space to introduce myself. I want to connect with people individually and let them understand me through my music.”

Hotei will be playing live at the Islington Assembly Hall on October 21st .

Strangers will be released October 16th through Spinefarm Records.

Tomoyasu Hotei has announced the release of his new album 'Strangers', the first international release of his stellar career on October 16th through Spinefarm Records. The album features an array of impressive guests including the godfather of punk Iggy Pop, Emigrate/Rammstein's Richard Z. Kruspe, Bullet For My Valentine's Matt Tuck, Noko from UK electronic band pioneers Apollo 440, and acclaimed Texan singer Shea Seger.

Having sold more than 40 million records in his native Japan,Tomoyasu Hotei is best known around the world for his original song, ‘Battle Without Honor Or Humanity’, instantly recognisable as the theme from Quentin Tarantino's film Kill Bill, and included here as the dramatic closing track.
'Strangers' demonstrates Tomoyasu Hotei's diversity as a songwriter and virtuoso guitarist, mixing instrumental epics with contemporary masterpieces such as ‘Move It’, an upbeat industrial thumper featuring Emigrate/Rammstein guitarist Richard Z. Kruspe on vocals, following on from Richard's ‘Silent So Long’ album – his second release in front of the microphone with his new band Emigrate.

Opening the album with the eerie surf-inspired instrumental ‘Medusa’, 'Strangers' is a body of work with a wide-ranging sonic palette, ripe with cinematic drama as displayed to huge effect on the atmospheric ‘Kill To Love You’, a dark and emotive track featuring Bullet For My Valentine's Matt Tuck on vocals as you've never heard him before.

With the abrasive roar of Iggy Pop on two tracks, including recent single ‘How The Cookie Crumbles’, alongside vocal contributions from Noko and Shea Seger, the unifying nature ofTomoyasu Hotei's guitar work and electronic wizardry produces a genuinely unique, futuristic, thoughtful and diverse album – equal parts rock, dance, punk and electro.
Tomoyasu Hotei comments, "British rock has always been a great source of inspiration to me and now living in London with a fresh start, ‘Strangers’ allows me to take a step out of this new and relatively anonymous space to introduce myself. A stranger to many, remembering the days when I was young and just starting out, playing gigs to a room of only 20 people, I want to connect with people individually and let them understand me through my music.”

The album has writing and production credits including Youth (Pink Floyd, Verve, Killing Joke), Leo Abrahams (Brian Eno, Paolo Nutini) and Stephen Lipson (Jeff Beck, Grace Jones, Hans Zimmer).
Tomoyasu Hotei's career began over 30 years ago in the early 80s as the guitarist in the legendary Japanese rock band BOŘWY (pronounced Boy), who enjoyed phenomenal success and are one of the most popular Japanese rock acts of all time. In 1988, Tomoyasu Hotei established himself as a solo artist, kicking off this new chapter with the album ‘Guitarhythm’, recorded at Abbey Road Studios in London.

Sought-after as a collaborator both in the studio and on stage, Tomoyasu Hotei has previously joined forces with music royalty such as David Bowie, Andy Mackay (Roxy Music), INXS, Blondie, Joni Mitchell, Darren Price (Underworld) and more recently performed with The Rolling Stones on their 50th Anniversary tour.
Now living in London to focus on his international career, Tomoyasu Hotei has headlined sold-out shows in the capital at the Roundhouse (2012), and Shepherd's Bush Empire (2013), and recently played a one-off intimate show at The Lexington, North London, to showcase 'Strangers' material; here, he was joined by album guests Apollo 440 and the alluring Shea Seger on vocals.

Guitar superstar TOMOYASU HOTEI has revealed the lyric video to his debut UK single ‘How The Cookie Crumbles’, which features the legendary front man Iggy Pop. The video was premiered yesterday on NME.com who say…

The lyric video perfectly captures the raw power of the song, describing a world in decay with images of both Iggy and Hotei snarling in the face of threat. Featuring Hotei’s unique graphic emblem, which is emblazoned across his guitars and artwork, the video reflects Iggy’s inspiration of the earth as a ‘cookie’ crumbling away as humanity destroys the very world in which we live.

An explosive high-‐energy rock stomper, ‘How The Cookie Crumbles’ roars with the best of Hotei’s dynamic attitude. The Line Of Best Fit were first to tip the track saying, “This new collaboration with Iggy Pop is as intoxicating as anything we've heard from Hotei. It's a bombastic electro-‐rock cut, with riffs serpentining through buzzing waves of synth pinball machine freneticism and Pop's grizzled howls. It's a kind of 'screw it' track that'll get you lost in the moment.”

The single will be released via Spinefarm Records on June 15th, just prior to Iggy’s two Wembley Stadium shows as Special Guest to the Foo Fighters and is taken from Hotei’s brand new album, which will be released in the autumn.

Hotei, who has sold more than 40 million records is best known around the world for his original song, ‘Battle Without Honor Or Humanity’, instantly recognisable as the theme from Quentin Tarantino’s film Kill Bill. Hotei and his family relocated to London from Tokyo in 2012 to focus on his international career; since being in the UK, he has headlined sold-‐out shows at the Roundhouse (2012), and Shepherd’s Bush Empire (2013), and has just announced a one-‐off intimate show on July 7th at The Lexington.

The November 9th show at O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire will be HOTEI’s second consecutive show in London following a performance in the city last December, and plans include an extensive state-of-the-art visual presentation, not to be missed.
